England’s most capped Test cricketer Alec Stewart has labelled Surrey Championship Premier League Malden Wanderers’ new practice facility as a step forward for the club and community, writes Nic Cecil.
The £50,000 complex at Cambridge Avenue has been installed with funding from Sita Trust and the club’s own funds, and was opened by Stewart, yesterday.
The three lane ECB approved net facility, will be used by children aged two-years-old up up to the Wanderers first team.
Stewart, a former England captain, learned of his first senior international call up while playing for Wanderers and went on to enjoy a glittering first class career at county and international level.
“This is a fantastic facility which benefits all the club, and is a credit to all the hard work Malden do in their community,” he said.
“I’m pleased to see my club moving forwards so well.”
Malden run five adult teams on a Saturday and have a 200-member colts section.
