Richmond rower Amelda Gare came within touching distance of an U23 world championship medal in Lithuania on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who has come through the Siemens-sponsored Start programme for talent identification and development at the University of Bath, was in the women’s eight crew that finished fourth behind winners Holland.
It represents the first step on the next Olympic cycle and GB Rowing U23 team manager Steve Gunn said: “It has been a good performance overall. The two eights rowed fantastically well.
“They’ve done so well they’re disappointed, but that just reflects their ambition and the tightness of the racing here.
“In terms of development, half the team had never been to a world championship before and a lot have shown the potential to step up for Rio 2016.”
