Surrey team-mate Matt Spriegel hopes back-to-back LV= County Championship Division One centuries for Sutton’s Arun Harinath has salvaged his Kia Oval career.
Harinath scored his maiden first-class ton in the crucial win over Middlesex last month and followed that up with an unbeaten 105 in the draw with Somerset in the following game.
The 25-year-old former Tiffin School student, who could not repeat the feat in last week’s 195-run win over Nottinghamshire that preserved Surrey’s top flight status, is in the final year of his contract with the Lions.
But Northamptonshire-bound Spriegel – who has played with Harinath since the age of nine – hopes his recent efforts are the cue for more success with Surrey.
Spriegel said: “The guy works so hard to take his opportunity and it was an emotional moment for everyone who knows him when he got that first century.
“To back it up straight away was brilliant.
“Everyone knows what he is capable of and hopefully he can kick on from it.”
