Merton continued their sparkling start to the season with a resounding 63-0 home victory over Battersea Ironsides second string.
Merton must play with the same intensity on their return to league action against Old Cliftonians this Saturday when Garth Hume, Matt Cooper, Mike Reid and Conor Hayes should return to the squad.
Scott Newmark marked his return from injury by kicking two first-half penalties. Alan Power scored his seventh try of the season and Dean Evans his first for the club before David Borchardt's superb solo effort and Newark's conversion made the interval score 23-0.
Second-half tries came thick and fast from Darren Glossop, Craig Millan,Tom Wood, man-of-the-match Jimmy Sowersby, the returning Kerryn James and Steve Capron.
The result was a reflection of the fine leadership of skipper for the day Heath Hooper and the hard work put in by coach Dave Burford on the training field.
New players of all standards are welcome to attend training on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm, under floodlights, at Morden Recreation Ground, Faversham Road, Morden. For more details call Jack on 07970 166958.
