Esher backs coach Craig Chalmers admits his side’s healthy appetite for winning proved the difference on Saturday, writes Pippa Field.
Esher came from 17-24 down with less than five minutes left on the clock, to beat Fylde 27-24 in National Division One.
Full back Luke Daniels converted his own try and sent over a penalty with the last kick of the game to seal the comeback, which left his side only three points adrift of league leaders Doncaster Knights.
“We’re in a habit of winning and maybe that’s what got us through at the end,” said Chalmers.
“It looked like they were going to run away with it, but our guys showed great character and great heart. I’m not saying we deserved to win, but we got through.”
Stewart Maguire and Ashley Smith scored Esher’s other tries and they travel to Loughborough Students this weekend.
