London Welsh head coach Justin Burnell has revealed his side's trip to Singapore for the World Club 10s tournament paved the way for securing the signature of ACT Brumbies back row forward Lachlan McCaffrey.
The Liverpool-born 24-year-old, who has Super 15 experience with Western Force and the Waratahs, penned a deal to play for the Premiership new boys this week after impressing in Asia last month.
And Burnell reckoned the former Australian U20 international, who also against the British & Irish Lions for Western Force on their tour of Australia last year, would make an impact in the English top flight.
“Lachlan caught our attention at the Club 10s in Singapore when he was part of the Brumbies squad," he said.
"I had the opportunity to meet him first hand and have a look at him play, and he really impressed me.
“He’s English qualified and that’s very important, but he’s also got an excellent and proven pedigree in Super 15 rugby.
"He’s a typical ball playing Australian forward - he’s got a brilliant skill set.
“It’s another massive statement by London Welsh in our bid to compete in the Aviva Premiership next season.”
