HAMPTON School’s rugby boys will learn their U18 NatWest Schools Cup quarter-final fate today.
The first XV made light of the adverse weather conditions to produce a convincing seven-try 46-0 victory at The Simon Langton Grammar School in Canterbury on Wednesday.
Hampton crashed out to Dulwich College by one point at the quarter-final stage last season, but took consolation from the fact Dulwich went on to lose the final to Bromsgrove School.
Captain Roman Malin-Hiscock’s side have beaten Trinity School Croydon, Reigate Grammar School, Berkhamsted School and Watford Grammar School for Boys to reach this stage of the competition - conceding just 33 points in the process.
Wednesday’s whopping points haul took their total in the competition to 163 in five matches.
And director of rugby Sean Thomson, who will be hoping for a home tie when the draw for the last eight is made today, was impressed with the way his side stuck to their task in Kent after rushing into a 17-0 half-time lead.
“It is always tough to travel away from home in a cup match, and even more so in the latter stages of a competition.
“The wind and the rain also added to the challenge and so securing that 17-0 advantage at the break was very reassuring.
“Simon Langton continued to fight back, but we were able to control the pace of the game in the second half and took our opportunities well.”
