Wisbech 18 Kingston 15
Kingston's dream of a place in the EDF Junior Vase final at Twickenham came to end in the Fens on Saturday, after being narrowly beaten by Wisbech RFC.
A single penalty kick 10 minutes from time secured the win for the home side.
A turnover by Wisbech after five minutes cost Kingston dear, with the home side breaching the Ks defence to score in the corner to take an early 5-0 lead.
A try by winger Nathan Brown and a conversion by Larry Weeks put Kingston in the lead 5-7.
Yet another turnove, allowed Wisbech to score their second try. A conversion gave them a 12-7 lead.
Larry Weeks kicked a penalty to reduce the deficit to 12-10 at the interval.
The second half was as tight as the first, with neither side being able to break their opponents' defensive line.
Wisbech kicked a penalty to take a 15-10 lead, but then Kingston replied with a try from Peter Codd to level the match.
With only 10 minutes to go, Kingston gave away a penalty.
Wisbech slotted it to take the lead 18-15.
Kingston tried everything for the final 10 minutes, but just could not find a way through.
The dream was over and, for many, the chance to play at Twickenham will never arrive.
This Saturday, Kingston will hope to return to winning ways in their next league match against Croydon at home.
