First-team skipper Tom Street is leading a new initiative for senior Warlingham players to help out at age-group training sessions, writes Steven Downes.

As well as being in London South West Four promotion contention at first-team level, Warlingham U15s, U16s and U17s are also flying high.

Street said: "The average age of the first team is under 24 and, like me, a large number of these players came from the junior age groups at the club.

"Therefore we know the importance of working with the future of the club so they may hopefully join the senior teams."

Flank forward Street, 23, returned to Warlingham this season as club captain after a couple of seasons playing National League-level rugby while a student.

When Warlingham beat London South Africans last month, 14 of the 15 starters were products of Warlingham's youth system.

"A lot of my age have stayed at the club and played massive roles in our success," added Street.

"Jonathan Fox, James Agate and Michael Cartledge have all been first-team regulars this season and they are all 18 or 19 years old, players who have stayed on at Warlingham or been recruited."

Warlingham's U17s have been playing in U18 fixtures, including a 29-10 win at Effingham and Leatherhead last weekend. Louis Bartlett, Omar Dixon, Seb Gogerly, Will Turvey and Ubaka Onekwelu scored tries, with Chas Foster kicking two coversions.
