London Welsh centre Paul Mackey has revealed that the Exiles have targeted maximum points from their next three games as they bid to move up the National Division One table.

The Exiles have suffered three consecutive defeats at the hands of powerhouses Nottingham and Exeter in recent weeks.

But with Launceston, Newbury and Moseley the next three opponents, the former Llanelli Scarlet is convinced a clean sweep is within their reach.

Mackey said: "The next three games we are looking at as must-win games.

"If we want to finish in the top eight then we have to win all three.

"We did enough in the games against Nottingham and Exeter to know we are capable of doing that."

Welsh's preparations took a jolt after the 31-12 defeat to Exeter on Saturday, when forwards coach Alex Codling quit the club over work commitments.

Also rugby coach at Trinity School, Codling found himself torn between responsibilities, which led to him bowing out at Old Deer Park.

But the Exiles were able to call on the services of former Wales coach Gareth Jenkins to boost morale ahead of Saturday's visit of Launceston.

And Mackey was delighted his old Scarlets boss came calling.

He added: "It was disappointing to see Alex go because he definitely bought something to the table.

"His team talks were pretty tough but you knew he would get things sorted.

"The boys used to dread coming in at half-time in games we weren't playing well in.

"Gareth is a great people person and he has a great relationship with the players.

"You can always talk to him and he takes an interest in every single member of the squad.

"I know it's only a short-term thing but it is great for the club"
