Battersea Ironsides 0 Old Whitgiftians 34

Old Whitgiftians produced a stunning performance to run out 34-0 winners at Battersea Ironsides in the Surrey Sheild on Saturday.

Fly-half Nathan Lamb was at the hub of their all-out attacking play, with his handling passing and pace helping to get his line moving.

Following two quickly taken penalties and some more slick passing, Les Todd soon scored Whitgiftians' first try.

Forward driving and some smooth passing down the line from the backs soon resulted in the next try for Andreas Dracoulis, following a jinking run down the touchline.

Next came a break from Barrett Bloxham from which James Schad scored in the corner.

Ironsides then found their feet only to find their attacks snuffed out an OW scrum, for whom Jim Ryan and Tom Hipsey were outstanding.

OWs continued to attack at the start of the second half, but passes were delayed and little ground was made.

Ironsides began to take the initiative, but when they tired, a break by Graham Street and a clever inside pass led to a try for Bloxham.

Continued pressure, with John Coleman and Ryan making fine breaks, led to a pass by scrum-half Sam Clark for Lamb to score under the posts.

The final try saw Bloxham sell a dummy and send Dracoulis away for his second try to crown an outstanding performance.

The OWs continued to attack at the beginning of the second half , but passes were delayed and little ground was made. Then the Ironsides took the initiative, with their scrum playing vigorously, and it was only when they started to tire that Barret Bloxham scored, following a break by Graham Street and a clever inside pass. Continued pressure by the OWs led to several individual breaks, notably by John Coleman and Jim Ryan with the rest of the pack backing up. A quick loose ball and pass by scrum half Sam Clark enabled Nathan Lamb to cap a fine performance by scoring under posts. Then Barret Bloxham, who had been at his best throughout the game, both with his field kicking and two conversions, sold a dummy, broke through, and sent Andreas Dracoulis away to score his well deserved second try.
