Seven tries from Richmond saw them give their fans something to celebrate with a 47-10 triumph over National League Division Three South whipping boys Havant in the final home game of the season.

Frank van Schalkwyk, Nick Wheatley, Jon Farmer(2), Chris Butt, Jo Ajuwa, Johnny Wehbe all crossed as director of rugby Geoff Richards’ men eventually saw off a spirited Havant effort.

Richmond play Bridgwater & Albion in their official final home game on May 2, but the game has been switched to London Irish’s training base in Sunbury, with the Middlesex Sevens being hosted at the Athletic Ground on the same day.

Richards has long held the ambition that his side be seen as the fourth-best team in the division this season, behind big-spending champions London Scottish, Rosslyn Park and Ealing.

Co-tenants Scottish can help them reach that end if they beat fifth-placed Canterbury at the Athletic Ground on Saturday, which would mean Richmond need only to avoid defeat in their final game to claim a top-four finish.

And Richards admits it is slightly disappointing they will not be able to complete their campaign on home soil, despite signing off in style at the weekend.

“We are at home, but obviously it is not going to be the same. They have good facilities over there as you would expect, so hopefully we can make it a home away from home on the day,” he added.

Richmond’s last game: May 2 Bridgwater & Albion (h, London Irish).
