A new investment consortium has launched negotiations to take over London Welsh.
The club was placed into administration earlier this week after after club chairman Kelvin Bryon announced he would no longer be able to be the club's principal investor.
The Dragons appointed Tenon Recovery as administrators having admitted the club was in a position to survive only for one further month.
The Rugby Football Union says it is consulting with the various parties involved.
A statement said: "RFU chief executive Francis Baron and Legal Officer Karena Vleck met the club's administrator, Tenon Recovery, and the major shareholder, Kelvin Bryon, on Wednesday June 24 and they will be meeting the new investment consortium who are negotiating to take a controlling stake in London Welsh on Monday June 29.
"The RFU is also in dialogue with the Championship clubs and are considering the various scenarios and associated options with a view to taking any decisions necessary within a short and defined timescale.
"It would be inappropriate to comment on what those options might be until conclusion of our investigations and consultation.
"When we are in a position to comment further we will do so."
