Mike Schmid has warned his rampant Esher side to expect a rough welcome in Redruth on Saturday.

Esher top National One after crushing victories over Manchester and Cinderford, which have seen them rack up 210 points and 31 tries.

But director of rugby Schmid expects Cornish side Redruth to try and physically dominate the early-season pacesetters.

He said: “We are now getting to the business end of the month, with Redruth and then London Scottish.

“It’s going to be a tough challenge. It’s a long way to travel, a lot of disruption, and we must take a professional approach to it.

“They will have seen our results and will be gunning for us and will maybe try to rough us up a bit. We have got to match them physically.

“They are very good at home and have great support. They finished third last year and have kept the squad together, and playing the top side will give them extra motivation.

“This is our first real test and we really have to perform now for the full 80 minutes if we are to get anything out of it.”

Schmid admits he was delighted with the 62-15 victory over Gloucestershire side Cinderford last Saturday.

Esher ran in nine tries, with doubles for skipper Dave Slemen, Garrick Cowley and Seb Jewell, while Sam Ulph, Neil Taylor and Jonny Hylton also touched down.

He added: “We were really excellent in the first half. We were pretty clinical and took every opportunity.”

Sam Sitcher is the only doubt for the trip to the West Country after sustaining a hip injury against Cinderford.

But Harlequins back rower Chris York and wingers Richard Briggs and Tom Loizides are all available after injury.
