Danny Wilson’s men were looking for a flying start to banish a tumultuous off-season to the history books but have started badly, following up their opening-day defeat at Bristol by going down 23-16 at Nottingham last weekend.
Aled Thomas scored a try but had an off day with the boot last Saturday, missing three of kickable penalties. Paul Sampson also touched down for Welsh, who at least have notched two bonus points in their opening two matches.
Welsh’s next three matches: September 19 Birmingham & Solihull (h), 26 Rotherham Titans (a), Oct 3 Bedford (h).
