Mitcham RFC pay tribute to former third-team player Daniel Simpson at a Memorial Sevens tournament om Sunday.
Proceeds from the event will go to Help for Heroes and the 2nd Rifles Battalion in memory of Danny, who died while serving in Afghanistan in July.
The sevens tournament will be split into two groups - elite and minnows.
The first will see the likes of the Army, Mitcham, Old Walcountians, Warlingham, St Georges and Old Wandsworthians first XVs doing battle.
The quality of the other group will be a shade lower with teams from Mitcham Colts, thirds and vets, the Conservative Club, coaches, parents, friends and families taking part.
Other attractions will include an assault course provided by the Army, an auction, food, drink, and a disco/karaoke.
Registration is at 11am and a minute’s applause in Danny’s memory will be held at noon, followed by the release of 250 balloons in memory of the servicemen who have lost their lives in Afghanistan.
The tournament will kick off at 12.10pm.
