Epsom College ran out 18-3 winners over Cranleigh to record their second victory of the season on Saturday.

Epsom took the game to their local rivals from the kick off, mounting a series of sustained attacks on the Cranleigh line.

A number of charging runs by England U18 prop Kyle Sinckler softened up the Cranleigh defence and it was Sinckler himself who was on the end of a clever cross kick by centre Ben Francis to touch down near the corner.

The try was converted by captain Jamie Falconer to give the college side a 7-0 lead.

The visitors’ defence held firm for the remainder of the first half and on one of their rare visits to the Epsom 22, Cranleigh opened their account with a penalty.

Falconer responded with a penalty of his own to take Epsom into the half time break with a 10-3 lead.

The second half developed into a war of attrition, with frantic defence preventing either side from making a breakthrough.

Falconer extended Epsom’s lead with a penalty in off the near post before second row Henry Cheetham finally sealed the game when he muscled his way over the Cranleigh line to score his second try in two games.
