Charities Touraid and For a Child’s Smile are hosting an amazing evening of rugby on Wednesday, October 14 (6.30pm), at Esher Rugby Club .
Those attending include Tim Stimpson, Ben Clarke, Peter Winterbottom, Mike Catt and Will Greenwood to name but a few, and the MC for the evening will be Esher veteran's player John Inverdale.
They will all be helping these two charities raise as much money as they can to help impoverished children from Cambodia.
Prior to the main match, there will be a curtain raiser between Cams Hill from Portsmouth and Orleans Park, Twickenham. Both schools hosted in 2007, the Jungle Crows and Kambujabutra (Cambodia) respectively, for the U14 Touraid Cup.
As a bonus, Sailen Tudu will be taking part in the event. One of India’s most promising young players, Tudu attends Hartpury College near Gloucester and plays under the watchful eye of Phil Vickery.
He is no stranger to Touraid, having come to the UK in 2007 as coach to the Jungle Crows (Cup winners).
Whether as a full-back or fly half, he will be a force to be reckoned with playing for the Kymer XV.
To understand this story fully, we have to go back to the summer when three girls from Cobham, Steph Watson, Alex Strachan and Gayle Telford, spent part of their gap year at the NGO School next to a rubbish dump in Cambodia.
This area is classified by Unicef as one of the five worst places to live in the world.
The NGO School exists to help these poverty-stricken children get off the dump and into school giving them the chance of a better future.
These determined students, with the help and guidance of Andy Berry (Touraid chief executive), have been striving ever since their return to help make a difference for these children before going to university.
