Danny Wilson admits he is craving some consistency from his London Welsh side as the Dragons look to bolster their spot in the Championship play-off positions.
Last weekend’s 19-14 win over Nottingham, their first defeat of the Midlands side for six years, saw the Exiles remain in sixth spot, despite their pre-season deduction of five points for entering administration.
And Wilson feels his side are moving in the right direction.
He said: “If you look at the league table we should actually be in joint third were it not for the deduction, but we knew that was going to be the challenge for us before we started the season.
“I would argue that we are far better than our league position suggests, but having said that we are very inconsistent.
“The last three weeks however - the two British Cup wins and then the Nottingham game - have been much better and our job now is to take that form forward.”
Jonathan Mills and Dan George scored first-half tries as Welsh saw off Nottingham at Old Deer Park, but Wilson admitted he was disappointed not to have cashed in their superiority.
He added: “I was frustrated we did not get a bonus point as we butchered a few opportunities in the first half.
“Early on in the game had a couple of things gone our way I think we could have won convincingly, but as it was I never felt we were in danger of losing.”
The Dragons travel to Birmingham this weekend to face the Championship’s rock-bottom club, and Wilson is warning against any complacency.
He added: “They will be scrapping for their lives and the key for us will be to go there with the right mindset.
“If we approach the game professionally and realise we have to do a job we should come away with the points.”
London Welsh’s next three matches: Dec 12 Birmingham & Solihull (a), 19 Rotherham Titans (h), 26 Bedford (a )
