Danny Wilson has challenged London Welsh to end their league campaign on a high as the Dragons prepare for the Championship play-offs.
Welsh head to Cornish Pirates this weekend for their final game, with their third-seeding for the end of season promotion jamboree already decided. But anybody who thinks Wilson is taking the Pirates game lightly is in for a nasty surprise.
He said: “We have got to get a performance from the Pirates game in order to get some momentum heading into our first play-off game.
“Having said that, at the same time there are a few players who could do with a rest.
“It is all about managing the whole thing and we will look at the Cornish game and base our selection on some individual performances, some of which have been good and some bad.”
The Exiles saw their interest in the British and Irish Cup all but ended when they failed to rack up a bonus point in a 20-10 defeat of Llanelli at Old Deer Park last weekend.
Despite tries from Errie Claassens, Rob Lewis and Simon Whatling the Dragons were unable to secure that precious fourth score and are now likely to be pipped to a semi-final spot by Pool C rivals Ulster.
Wilson added: “I think we have blown it in all honesty.
“We had so much territory, so much ball and still not managed to get that bonus point try.
“Credit to Llanelli for some excellent defence and they turned us over a few times, but we made a lot of errors.
“I rested four of my starting line-up for the game but we should still have come away comfortably with a bonus point but we didn’t. ”
London Welsh’s next three matches: Mar 13 Cornish Pirates (a), 20 Doncaster (P/O, h), 27 Exeter (P/O, a)
