Twickenham’s inability to close out their game at Weybridge Vandals cost them dear as they went down 19-15 on Saturday.
At least they managed to retain ninth place after Wincheser beat next weekend’s opponents relegation rivals London South Africa in a weekend that pits the bottom four sides against each other.
Weybridge opened the scoring with an early penalty, but Twickenham replied with a try from scrum-half Tom Eastham, who started and finished the move having linked up with centre Hywel Gammage.
Luke Scarborough added the conversion and also kicked a penalty and Twickenham led 15-9 at half-time after second row Jayme Salmon collected the ball from a nicely-worked backs move to score.
Weybridge scored their first try of the game seven minutes into the second half, but they were still a point adrift going into the final minute of the game.
However, when they should have been winding down the clock, Twickenham were turned over and Weybridge’s number eight unleashed their open-side flanker for the match-winning score.
