England A Women recorded their second win consecutive over the Nomads this season with a convincing 26-7 victory at Esher RFC on Saturday.

Mike Barnett's side ran in four tries courtesy of Claire Allan, Danielle Knight, Michaela Staniford and Jenny Edwards to secure the victory. Centre Alice Richardson also added three conversions.

England A Head Coach Mike Barnett said: "This was a really good win, and it's extra special to get a second victory over the Nomads. It shows the progress we have made over the last couple of seasons and the squad are certainly reaching a peak with so many players vying for a spot in the world cup squad.

"We had some really tough battles in the first half of this match and we had to work hard to get the ball and find any openings. However, in the second half we had more continuity and our fitness and ability told."

England's Allan, who has also featured in the RBS 6 Nations this season, opened the home side's account when a good break by England saw the ball recycled through the backs, and then Allan took her chances to run in unopposed. Richardson missed the conversion.

The Nomads bounced back after the half hour mark with Elisha Dee scoring a try from a pick and drive, and with Alex Pilkington converting they took a 7-5 lead.

That was until their hard work was undone by the sin binning of scrum half Susie Appleby, which saw England make the most of their one player advantage. The Red Roses applied the pressure on the Nomads' line thick and fast and fly-half Knight spotted a gap to score under the posts. With Richardson converting England led 12-7 at the break.

Wasps wing Michaela Staniford, who's also competed in the Six Nations this season, then made her mark on the score sheet with a 53rd minute try. It was a good individual effort which saw her run in from the half way line to cut through the Nomads' defence and show tremendous pace and power. Again Richardson converted.

The Nomads had no response to England's superior ability and fitness and wing Edwards hammered the nail in their coffin with just nine minutes to go with a superb try. Richardson was the architect of the score, executing a great cross field kick which Edwards show great speed to take on the bounce before touching down. Again Richardson converted, making the final score 26-7.
