Grasshoppers dented Chiswick’s promotion hopes with a shock 23-15 away win on Saturday.
Gs starved Chiswick’s running backs of possession from the start and edged ahead thanks to two Stuart Daniels penalites.
Chiswick narrowed the gap with a penalty of their own but then, following up on another well-aimed Daniels kick, winger Matthew Orishaguna, capitalised on a defensive error to ground the ball for an unconverted try to give Grasshoppers an 11-3 half-time lead.
Gs continued their forward domination in the second half and were rewarded when skipper, Jeremy Easton slipped in for a try after some slick handling. Daniels narrowly missed the kick, hitting the woodwork.
Then influential stand-off Daniels followed up on some loose Chiswick defence to touch down for the try and then added a conversion to make it 23-3.
Chiswick fought back with two well-taken tries, one of them converted.
Daniels was Grasshoppers’ player of the day, while scrum-half Thomas Orishaguna’s tackling was highlight of a superb all-round performance.
Grasshoppers host Finchley next Saturday (3pm).
