Danny Wilson admits he is desperate to avoid Bristol in the Championship play-off semi-finals as London Welsh prepare for a crunch clash at Exeter this weekend.
The Dragons got their post-season campaign off to a flying start on Saturday, downing Doncaster 26-10 at Old Deer Park.
And with the Pool B winners likely to avoid heavyweights Bristol in the final four, Wilson is targeting a shock victory on the road.
He said: “We are in a group that we really need to win to avoid a Bristol semi-final.
“Not that we don’t think we can beat Bristol on any one day, but the easier route is to win the group and not play Bristol in the semis.
“It is going to be tough to beat Exeter away and they are favourites for the group.
“We have beaten them once in the last couple of months of the season, so we will go there with confidence.”
Paul Sampson (two), Errie Claassens and Lee Beach grabbed the Welsh tries on Saturday as the Dragons held Doncaster at arm’s length.
And Wilson was delighted to make home advantage count.
He added: “This season we have really started to build at home in terms of results.
“Last season our away record was better, but this year we are making our home games count and I am really happy with the commitment.
“Doncaster are such a physical side - they had a few players out and the new guys came in really looking to make a point and made it very tough.
“It is a great start for us - if you are going to advance in these play-offs you have to win your home games.
“We picked up a bonus point as well and that could prove massive when all is said and done.”
London Welsh’s next three play-off games: Mar 27 Exeter (a), Apr 3 Nottingham (h), 11 Nottingham (a)
