London Wasps have added further buzz to their St George’s Day Game, announcing pop sensation Alexandra Burke as the headline act for the Guinness Premiership clash at Twickenham on Saturday April, 24.
Alexandra joined Wasps’ players Danny Cipriani, Joe Simpson, Rob Webber and Tim Payne at Selfridges, London today, announcing her involvement in this fantastic game, whilst helping Selfridges prepare for the exclusive sale of Wasps special edition St George’s Day Game Shirt at the store next Saturday, April 3.
100 of the special match shirts, which blend Wasps colours with the St George’s cross, will be available at Selfridges on Saturday – the ONLY place in the country that will have the shirts available for sale on this day.
Shoppers and supporters who come along to Selfridges on Saturday will also have the chance to meet a host of Wasps players and Alexandra who will be in store at midday to meet supporters.
On the day of the game, chart-topping Alexandra will be joined on the hallowed Twickenham pitch by over 300 dancers to perform a spectacular version of her No 1 hit ‘Bad Boys’ and ‘Broken Heels’.
Alexandra leads a great entertainment lineup that will help celebrate not only St George’s Day but the link that Wasps have forged with the Help for Heroes charity who will receive a minimum of £1 per ticket sold for the game.
With a distinctly patriotic family feel to the day, highly competitive and exhilarating rugby will be intertwined with dramatic military displays, performances from the Royal Marines Band and the London Chorus Choir, more than 300 Pro Excel dancers on pitch pre match, and a huge congregation of Scouts Trooping the Colour in honour of their own Patron St George.
The game will be a fierce contest between two giants of English rugby, London Wasps and Bath, at the home of English rugby and with all to play for in the league it’s set to be a great day out for all the family.
Nearing ticket sales of 40,000, the event has received the support of Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prince Harry through the link to Help for Heroes and the ‘Treat A Troop’ – an initiative that allows supporters to purchase an additional ticket for active servicemen and women.
Alexandra Burke said: “I am thrilled to be able to take part in this special St George’s Day event and it will be an honour to sing at this game which is raising money for our brave and deserving troops.
"We have much to be proud of in our country and it’s wonderful to come together with and join with London Wasps to celebrate our Patron Saint in this way.”
