Surrey have a home tie with the holders Gloucestershire, while Middlesex are heading to the south coast to face Dorset & Wilts in the quarter finals of the RFU National Under-20 Championship this Sunday (March 28), with a date at Twickenham Stadium the ultimate prize.
Surrey, winners of the southern pool of the London & South East qualifying competition, played off against Middlesex from the north of the division, for the Jason Leonard Trophy at the Army Stadium, Aldershot two weeks ago (March 14).
Surrey won 27-20 to capture the Jason Leonard Trophy from the 2009 winners, and gain a home tie in the last eight, to be staged at Old Emanuel RFC as part of the club's centenary celebrations.
But the home draw may be a mixed blessing as it brings Surrey a meeting with Gloucestershire, the reigning National U20 champions who have not been beaten in the competition in three years.
However, only four of this Sunday's Gloucestershire squad played in last season's championship winning team.
Surrey defeated Hampshire, the Army and Kent to win their pool and have been on good form under head coach Tom Williams, who is an Inner-City Player Development Officer with Harlequins, and has three current or former Guinness Premiership players as fellow coaches in Ceri Jones, Jim Evans and Mel Deane.
Jones is the Harlequins and Wales prop; Evans recently retired from the Quins second row, and Deane was an international centre for Ireland A who now has his own fitness training business as well as occasionally turning out for Richmond.
Surrey's captain Oli Edwards of Effiingham & Leatherhead, is another useful man to have around in a tight spot, as he is also a qualified referee.
Middlesex meanwhile are off to Bournemouth RFC for their tie with Dorset & Wilts, who will be missing their top points scorer, wing Mike Pope.
Middlesex right wing Sam Randle, a Brunel University student reading sports science, scored the county's first try in the playoff versus Surrey, but is unavailable this week having returned home to the Isle of Man.
Also out of contention are Richmond open-side flanker James Faktor, away on a gap year, and injured Saracens Amateurs scrum half James Leven.
"We found Gloucestershire away too strong for us last season so Dorset may be a less intimidating threat but we will find out for certain on Sunday," said Nigel Orton, Middlesex team manager.
"We played Surrey in pre-season and won, then defeated Sussex, Essex and Hertfordshire in our region before being squeaked by Surrey in the London & South East final.
"We may have three or four players missing but we are confident we will put up a good display in Bournemouth."
