Danny Wilson is hoping for a better refereeing display when London Welsh host Nottingham in a crucial Championship play-off game this weekend.

Wilson was seething after seeing his Dragons side on the end of a number of baffling decisions as Welsh crashed to a 32-6 defeat at Exeter last Saturday, a result that knocked them off the Pool B summit.

And the Exiles coach has no desire to go through that again.

Wilson said: “I do not usually criticise referees so that shows just how bad it was.

“We had an incident just before half-time when one of their players deliberately knocked on two metres from their own line when it looked like we were about to score.

“The referee (Keith Lewis) gave a scrum when it should have been a penalty and a sin-binning.

“He reffed the scrum incompetently all game and we got no reward for it.

“I am angry because we have the evidence on DVD.

“It is hard enough when you are under pressure like we are, but the referee changed the entire concept of the game.”

Welsh were trailing 13-6 with just seven minutes to play before three late Exeter tries gave the score a lop-sided look.

And with pivotal home and away clashes with Nottingham up next Wilson expects an improvement.

He added: “I could go on about the ref all day but that still does not excuse the late collapse.

“We gave Exeter a bonus point and that annoys me.

“But we have to move on.

“We are still up there and in all honesty the group will probably be decided by what happens in the next two games.

“It is going to be tight and it is going to be physical, but we have to make home advantage count and come out with a win.”

London Welsh’s remaining play-off games: Apr 3 Nottingham (h), 11 Nottingham (a), 17 Exeter (h), May 1 Doncaster (a)
