A Luke Cousins try 12 minutes from time was not enough to inspire Richmond to a famous win at National Division Two South title contenders Ealing.
The fly-half’s solo effort proved the final score as director of rugby Steve Hill’s men fell to a narrow 15-13 defeat - their second of the season - despite a spirited fightback.
Prolific former Esher full-back Neil Hallet’s touchline conversion of Phil Chesters’ first-half try proved crucial for the hosts, before Peter Hodgkinson’s second-half interception score extended the advantage to 15-3.
Richmond’s next three games: Sept 18 Taunton (h), 25 Newbury (a), Oct 2 Clifton (h).
