London Welsh on-loan hooker Marc Breeze reckons life couldn’t be better after kicking-off his Dragons career with a debut try at the weekend.
The Cwmavon 23-year-old, who has joined the Exiles for the season from the Ospreys, made himself an instant hit with fans in Saturday’s 33-9 bonus-point win over Birmingham & Solihull.
Head coach Phil Greening had asked for a response following a disappointing display at Cornish Pirates and Breeze was only too happy to oblige as he settles to life in west London.
“It’s a bit of a fairytale really. You couldn’t ask for a better start than that,” he said.
“A bonus-point win and a try in my first league game and first home game. I’m very happy with that.
“It’s a bit busier than Cwmavon so I’m getting used to amount of traffic - when I get back home I can be places in two minutes “Cwmavon is a bit quieter and it’s hectic all the time here, but it’s good though.”
Liam Gibson, Marc Breeze, Josh Drauniniu and Aled Thomas crossed for tries as the Exiles rumbled to maximum points and Old Deer Park chief Greening admitted he was pleased with what he saw.
“It was a very big moment for a lot of the players, to get out there for our first home game,” he said.
“It is very important for the club and its supporters that we perform well at home and we have to make this place a fortress.
“The simple fact is, if we win our home games this season we will be right up there, and that has to be the aim.
“There’s a lot of potential, but unfortunately potential doesn’t win you championships - you’ve got to deliver.”
Greening is expecting another stiff examination at Plymouth Albion and Breeze knows exactly where Welsh need to tighten things up.
“Plymouth won’t be an easy game on their turf, but we need to concentrate on us,” he added.
“In the last three games we’ve only had one try scored against us, but we’ve conceded 52 points.
“So we need to cut down on the penalties and just be patient.”
London Welsh’s next three matches: Sep 18 Plymouth Albion (a), 25 Rotherham (h), Oct 1 Esher (a).
