Harlequins RL skipper Rob Purdham has paid tribute to his club and the Rugby League community for supporting his family in hosting the Garry Purdham Memorial Match next week.
Co-England coach Steve McNamara is sending a side to play a Cumbria team at Whitehaven’s Recreation Ground on October 3 in memory of older brother Garry.
The Cumbria team is expected to feature a host of Super League stars - including St Helens and England winger Ade Gardner - as well as players from local clubs.
And Purdham, who suffered a difficult season on the pitch as he watched his team finish second bottom off the Super League, has welcomed the backing.
“This is a massive game for me personally and would mean so much for both the Cumbrian and London regions," he said.
“I would like to thank all of the Harlequins Rugby League supporters, and Rugby League supporters in general, for their support over the last few difficult months.
“By supporting this game, you will be supporting my family.”
All of the proceeds from this game will go to Garry’s young family and entry to the game is by special commemorative programme only, which can be purchased in advance or on the day.
