London Welsh managing director John Taylor has revealed the Championship club are keen to give Gavin Henson the chance to resume his rugby career.
The 28-year-old Ospreys centre has been out of the game for 18 months and believes he is ready to return to action in a bid to land a place in the Wales squad for next year's World Cup.
Henson is under contract to the Magners League outfit until the end of the season, but would prefer to play in London as he feels his way back to full fitness.
Aviva Premiership sides London Irish, Harlequins, Saracens and London Wasps have all ruled out a move for the British Lion leaving the way clear for the Exiles - who already have a link-up with the Welsh region - to express their interest.
But Taylor insists it would not be on a permanent basis.
"We are not anxious to sign Gavin Henson as a long-term player for London Welsh because we know his aspirations are above that at the moment," he told BBC Radio Wales.
"What we think we can do is provide a very useful stepping stone both in training and in his first steps back on the playing field.
"Obviously we'd love to have him here, he would be a terrific draw down here at Old Deer Park.
"If he is in London, wants to stay in London and train in London then it could all work."
