LATE SHOW: Twickenham left it late to secure their second win of the season against Weybridge Vandals at Parksfields on Saturday. Two Dominic Brown penalties inside the last five minutes turned a 17-13 deficit in to a 19-17 triumph to preserve Ts 100 per cent record in London Division Two South West.
Twickenham had led 10-7 at the break, but a converted try from Vandals skipper Jon Cottam and Dia Hammond penalty had given the visitors the advantage. But fly-half Brown held his nerve in the closing stages to kick his side to a narrow victory ahead of Saturday’s trip to table topping London Cornish.
CITING DISMISSED: The citing against Harlequins skipper Chris Robshaw for an alleged dangerous tackle on Northampton Saints’ Lee Dickson has been dismissed. Robshaw had been called to appear before an RFU disciplinary committee after the incident during Quins’ Aviva Premiership defeat at the Twickenham Stoop on September 11. The panel at Twickenham Stadium this week comprised of Jeff Blackett (chair), Peter Budge and Jeremy Summers.
BARNES DOMINANT: Barnes remained third in National Division Three London with a 48-29 triumph at Civil Service on Saturday. Skipper Gary Holmes’ men, inspired by a dominant display from their front five, romped away in the second-half to secure their third win from three games. Barnes host struggling Basingstoke on Saturday looking to stretch their unbeaten start to the campaign.
ROCK EXPANSION: Rugby sevens and music festival RugbyRocks expands to two days when it returns to Richmond’s Athletic Ground, on June 4 and 5 next year. The event, which will be spread into Old Deer Park, is part of the National Sevens Series and, in addition to the rugby, will feature a netball and volleyball tournament.
WINE TASTER: FirstCape Wines, sponsors of London Scottish, will host a sponsors day, when the team plays Redruth on Saturday. Visitors to the Richmond Athletic Ground will have the opportunity to sample a range of wines free of charge as part of the special sponsors’ day. The wine sampling will take place before and during the match.
FROM THE FLAMES: Feltham RFC will officially open their new clubhouse on Saturday when they face a Staines fourth team in the Middlesex Merit Table Division Four on Saturday. The Park Road venue was ravaged by fire in an arson attack by second-team player Brendan Burke in October last year, causing £125,000 worth of damage.
TEDDINGTON DOUBLE: Teddington made it two wins from two in London Divison Three South West when they dispatched Camberley 28-15 at Bushy Park on Saturday. The Antlers, Surrey One and National Junior Vase winners last year, sit second in the table having beaten London South Africa 31-14 a week earlier.
