Records never last and On Saturday the Wild Geese let go their 21 match unbeaten run in league fixtures and 25 in all games.
The victors Tonbridge Juddians themselves boasted an unbeaten record of 47 games going back 3 seasons and consecutive promotions, they deserved the spoils on the day.
It was the first time that these sides have met and London Irish Amateurs were impressed with the hospitality afforded them post match by a real community club.
It was the Wild Geese however who proved to be the most generous on the pitch giving Juddians two tries with only 6 minutes on the clock, both well worked efforts with forward power interacting with slick passing and finishing ability from their backline.
It is fair to surmise that Irish were shell shocked, starting to believe the hype that had been heard about this side.
Certainly there was an appreciable difference in size and age, the younger player in the Irish side looked just that but they played naively too.
Tackle technique was poor allowing the Tunbridge centres to bounce players and offload to telling effect out of the tackle. When outhalf David Dunne was sent to the sinbin Juddians sailed into a 23-3 lead.
Irish did fight back in the first half with the forwards retaining possession and clawing back a hard earned try but the half finished with a Juddians intercept and the bonus point was secured with a 30-10 half time score.
Irish re grouped at the break and revitalised by their strong finish to the half turned in to the wind with some confidence restored.
They carried the ball at the home team making the hard yards time and again from Sam McKinney, Matthew Bennetts and Paul Kerr.
The set piece became dominant and once turned Juudians defensive organisation wained and Irish began to move the ball scoring two tries through wing Matt Guy and a fourth for the losing bonus point through a rolling maul.
At full time Juddians had hung on for a 36-30 win, knowing that Irish had come very close to an upset.
Manager Simon Martinson said "We lacked technique in the opening exchanges allowing ourselves to be bullied at the tackle and breakdown, as the game wore on the boys showed immense character to pick themselves up and eventually dominate the last 30 minutes. We will have to settle for 2 bonus points."
