Rosslyn Park head coach Florent Rossigneaux has made no excuses for a second consecutive National Division One defeat.
Park looked set to have secured a dramatic victory at Redruth with a last-minute Chris Lewis try, only for a Howard Quigley mistake at the restart to allow the hosts to snatch a 26-24 with a late drop-goal.
Rossigneaux’s men were without ten first team regulars at the weekend - including hooker Amo Tauialo and kicker Ross Laidlaw.
But the Rock chief insists it was a 30 minute quiet spell - rather than the absentees - that ultimately cost his side maximum points.
“The quality of players across the board is good enough, but I guess the guys who are missing add a bit of experience and help the team gel,” he said.
“That is no excuse. I can’t say I’m too down, but I am disappointed and hurt by the result.
“We had so many opportunities to win the game, but the performance wasn’t there for 30 minutes and in the second-half we had 75 per cent possession that we couldn’t do anything with.
“Because of injuries we are working with a group of new players in a new league and we need to learn to travel.
“The biggest problem is the speed of the new league and the mental concentration that is required. Once we address that I’m sure we’ll be fine.”
Lewis had put his team in front at 24-23, as he added to twelve points from Richard Davies’ boot and a converted Olly Lindsay-Hague try, but it proved in vain.
Park have the chance to bounce back when they host Otley and that is exactly what Rossigneaux is looking for.
“There are plenty of positives to take from the game. Had it not been for the mistake it could have been a very different result,” he added.
“We have to be optimistic about the next game. We are looking at having a reasonable season of consolidation this year, so there is no need to put any pressure on ourselves.
“This is a great opportunity to bounce back straight away to rectify the record and make sure Saturday is a good day for us.”
Park’s next three games: 9 Otley (h), 16 Tynedale (a), 23 Stourbridge (h).
