Rising Walton rugby star Anthony Watson will complete a dream fortnight today when he makes his rugby debut at Twickenham stadium.

The 17-year-old London Irish and England U18s flyer, the youngest player ever to represent the club in the Premiership, will play for the Northern Hemisphere – alongside World Cup winner Will Greenwood – in the Help for Heroes Rugby Challenge.

The St George’s School student was last week nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award, of which previous winners include Wayne Rooney and Andy Murray.

Watson, whose father Duncan once played for Saracens, also received a special recognition award from the Jaguar Academy of Sport this week.

“It’s every rugby player’s dream to play at Twickenham in a big game, so I’m really chuffed to finally fulfil a lifelong ambition,” he said.

“I’ve played at Twickenham once before for my school in the Daily Mail U18 Vase final, but ended up on the losing side, so it would be great to head out there and get a win.

“I hope playing in the Heroes Rugby Challenge in front of TV cameras and a big crowd will give me the kind of experience I need to develop as a player.

“I’m proud to be doing my bit for the brave servicemen and women who get badly injured serving our country.

“I hope fans back the game and Twickenham is packed for the occasion.”
