Warlingham were left disappointed on Saturday as they lost 28-10 at home to Tunbridge Wells.

Warlingham were hoping to get back on the tracks with a win at their Hamsey Green ground against a Tunbridge side who had only two previous wins this season.

However, this was not to be and a determined Wells whose performance belied their lowly position in the league were worthy winners against a disappointing Warlingham.

Wells, with a stiff breeze behind them, kept the home side in their own half for most of the first period and following a scrum infringement kicked a penalty after 15 minutes followed five minutes later with another due to a tip tackle.

With five minutes of the half remaining the Wells centre made an excellent break before unselfishly unloading to his supporting second row for a converted try.

From the ensuing kick off the Warlingham No 6 got his hands on the ball and drove deep into the opposition 22 where a penalty was awarded and converted by Ollie Doe with an impressive kick into the wind.

Wells continued to deprive Warlingham of the ball and towards the end of the half converted a further penalty awarded for a high tackle. This left Warlingham with much to do in the second half.

After what we must assume were some stern words at half time they started in a much more aggressive manor with the forwards driving the ball towards the opposition line, penalty, lineout at five metres and a further drive but the ball going loose and a quickly taken 22 drop out to Wells from which they ran it out of defence and but for the referee seeing a final forward pass would probably have scored.

James Agate then replaced Ollie Doe followed by Andrew Moreland for James Delderfield which, in fact, gave Warlingham a more balanced front row.

A fine kick by Wells to the 10 metre line then produced sustained pressure from which they eventually scored out wide, unconverted.

Shortly after this with the Wells scrum driving for what would probably have been a score when a defender dived in to deny them a converted penalty try was awarded.

Barry Ruddock replaced Mike Fair and Warlingham now raised their game with a succession of driving mauls resulting in penalties and individual breaks from which they continued to attack, one from Jon Osbourne nearly bringing a try when he was tackled just short of the line the ball going forward for a Wells scrum.

Continued pressure did finally result in a try by Tom Skinner converted by James Agate but this was too late to deny Wells the victory.

Warlingham players were not happy with their performance and are determined to get back to winning ways next week in what could be a difficult fixture away at Brighton.
