On Friday 2nd November, Gibraltar Barracks in Minley Surrey held a dazzling evening of spectacular fireworks.
The Gibraltar Barracks fireworks have been running for several years and are based at the Gibraltar military barracks in Minley. The public not only were treated to a sensational display of fireworks but they were allowed to see one of the most stunning military sites in Surrey. On this cold Friday night, not only did the public enjoy themselves but the army soldiers who are based there were allowed a night off to help with the display and meet and greet the guests into their grounds.
Due to the current state of the economy, the barracks offered a generous price of £2 tickets for children and £5 for adults, which meant that anyone was welcome and it was completely affordable for anyone. The main sight for the evening was based in the heart of the barracks and was designed to please all ages. There was an enormous fun house set up especially for the children as well as different stools to win prizes and sweetie stools. Adults had access to food stools and a bar for plenty of drink. The huge bonfire was lit at 7 pm which was a good 8ft in size. I’m sure on the cold night it was, it was a delightful sight to have a bonfire to stand by for everyone and was exciting to look at whilst having a drink and waiting for the fireworks The fireworks display kicked off at 8 pm, and it had a lot to live up to from the amazing display from the year before. But of course it did not disappoint. The display which lasted for a good 20 minutes dazzled and stunned the crowd with all the different colours and sounds that lit up the sky. Spectators were cornered off from a good distance to ensure that everyone had a full view and to make it a fun but safe night for everyone.
I spoke to a woman with her four kids and asked her how she was enjoying her night and she explained to me ‘I have been coming to the Gibraltar Barracks fireworks for 5 years now and they never seem to let me down, it’s great for me being a mother as the children can go off and enjoy themselves and I know that they are in a safe environment. I love the atmosphere here as I am guaranteed a fun night and all the soldiers are so friendly and helpful.’
These kind of events bring the community together and it is great to see people enjoying themselves in a safe and relaxed environment. Fireworks night was thriving in Minley on Friday night and so I hope nights like these continue in the future and uphold their safe and fun reputation
