To mark the beginning of February, Wings of Hope group Spirit, from Surbiton High School decided to host a comedy evening with the aim of raising over £700 for their charity. Founded by Rajini Sriram FRSA and Dr R Sriram PhD FRSA, the Wings of Hope charity aims to provide free education to underprivileged children throughout impoverished areas in India and Malawi.

Wings of Hope is not just about raising funds, but encourages groups of young students all over the country, to take it upon themselves to spread news about the work Wings of Hope does, and most of all raise awareness of the charity. The Wings of Hope projects are funded by the money raised by school students all over the country, and for Team Spirit their Comedy Evening would mark a huge part of their Wings of Hope journey.

Whilst balancing the demands of their AS Levels, the group managed to organise what was to be a highly enjoyable and successful comedy evening. The girls organised performances from professional comedienne Viv Groskop, as well as several talented musical pupils. The audience was filled with parents, to pupils, to family friends, one member had even travelled all the way from Buckinghamshire just to attend!

A lot of time and well planned organisation went into the success of the evening; from the purchasing of wine to be sold, the raffle, to the homemade fudge to be sold. From the accounting to the marketing, team Spirit successfully delivered an event which they had initially nervously approached. The evening was a testament to all their hard work, with extremely positive feedback and comments, for team Spirit the night had gone better than even they had hoped.
