On Sunday the 10th of February the Teddington under 16 hockey squad travelled down to Marlow for two England hockey cup matches. The First push back (against Marlow was at 10AM) so an early start to the day. The odds were against us in the Marlow match because they were 6 points ahead of us in the tables. We started the first 10 minuets off with high pressure and strong defence however within the 12th minuet a deflected ball in ended in a goal from Marlow, We came back at this goal hard and court the Marlow defence of guard and won a penalty corner. Our experienced drag flicker Callum Woolf struck the ball into the bottom left corner. A half time talk from the team captain (Seb Gilbert) and then back into the game.

In the second half we held position nicely with strong possession play from (Ben Davis) in the Central midfield and (Savraj Lotta) Center back lead to a well worked cross and finish by Dom Grant. We played strongly in defence and kept marking tight which ended that game 2-1 to Teddington.

The next team we played was Surbiton, who had all odds in their favor, as they were unbeaten and were top of the table. We had a frightening first half where they came close to scoring on multiple occasions but our strong goal keeper (Matt Nunes) kept them at bay.

We entered the second half with heads up and ready to score. We won an early Penalty corner in which Savraj powered it into the bottom left for Seb to deflect up in the roof of the net. They came back at us hard and because of the severe weather conditions our keep misjudged his dive and slipped leave the goal open. Surbiton converted that chance leaving the score out 1-1. Suddenly an early break from Ben Doble up the right wing from an ariel left us on the counter attack. Ben Doble played it across to Ben Davis who kept the ball in the air but the England international keeper charged him down knocking down Ben and the keeper the ball bounced to Louis D’Castro who converted the open goal. They tried to get back into the game but the whistle went and we had won.

Beating the top of the league and Marlow in one day when the odds were against us was a positive move. Goal scorers from Dom Grant, Seb Gilbert, Callum Woolf and Louis D’castro with Assists from Seb Gilbert, Ben Davis and Ben Doble Man of the first match went to Savraj Lotta and the second man of the match went to Matt Nunes. Well played everyone.
