Indie-folk singer Gabrielle Aplin performed exclusive gig in Banquet Records, Kingston on Valentine’s Day.
Aplin gained a huge following on YouTube after uploading covers of songs by bands such as ‘Paramore’ and ‘You Me At Six’, but shot to fame when John Lewis chose her cover of ‘The Power of Love’ by Frankie Goes To Hollywood to soundtrack their Christmas advert, which followed a snowman’s journey of finding the perfect gift for his wife. The poignant cover claimed top spot in the UK singles charts and her follow up EP, ‘Please Don’t Say You Love Me’ released on 10th February 2013 managed to gain No 1 on the iTunes album chart.
Aplin has come so far from singing covers in her bathroom to supporting Ed Sheeran on the Austrailian leg of his ‘+’ tour later this year. With a nomination for ‘MTV’s Brand New: 2013’, fans were lucky to see her in such an exclusive performance in Banquet Records. Fans queued hours before and the lined snaked down the road and up the side road.
Aplin flawlessly sang songs of her upcoming album, ‘English Rain’. However, she nearly forgot about her hit single ‘Please Don’t Say You Love’ and joked about that it is the whole reason she’s performing in the store how she should probably write a track list so that she doesn’t forget what to sing. Aplin finished with a signing session taking the time to meet and pose for photos with each fan as well as signing her vinyl record for them as keep sake.
Her debut album ‘English Rain’ is due for release in April this year, so keep your eyes and ears peeled because things are just beginning for Gabrielle Aplin.
