Every year, Nonsuch High School presents its all-female production of a musical. This year’s chosen show was ‘Annie’, performed on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th to a paying audience. Both dates were completely sold out and the audience seemed to be thoroughly engaged in the plot, which was brought to life by the astounding cast.

The day before the first performance (Tuesday 12th) year 6 pupils at Cuddington Croft primary school were lucky enough to see the dress rehearsal of ‘Annie’. The pupils who attended were an enthusiastic audience and very much enjoyed themselves. One pupil, 11, said “It was really good; I liked it a lot more than I thought I would!”

The final performances on the 13th and 14th were even more polished than on the Tuesday, presumably thanks to being able to rehearse in front of a live audience- credit should be given to Cuddington Croft who were extremely generous in lending their year 6s. Not a seat was empty, and a fervent applause was received on both nights: one cast member described it as ‘truly gratifying’. The orchestra were extraordinary, playing complex renditions of the ‘Annie’ classics, including: ‘It’s a hard knock life’ and ‘Tomorrow’.

The effort that the staff and students put into this production, both behind the scenes and on stage, is commendable and definitely paid off. Hopefully future productions at Nonsuch will live up to everyone’s now high expectations, if they do not surpass them.
