On Saturday 9th February, Surrey U18 competed at the South East water polo competition. They managed to secure a first win over Kent (7-5) with goal scorers: Matthew Brooks (2), Kevin Girard (3), Thomas Andrews (1) and Joshua Hampson (1). However, this game was immediately followed by a tough game with Sussex. Surrey lost after some tough decisions by the referees which lead to various penalties. The final score was 5-3 with Ben Dubben, Thomas Andrews and Matthew Brooks scoring the 3 goals. The final game that Surrey had was against Hampshire. There is an enormous rivalry between the two counties who fight each year to win 1st place at this competition. However after controversial decisions which lead to the “wrapping” (totally sending out) of two players on both teams, Surrey had to field some younger players. The final score was 9-4. The scorers were Kevin Girard (2), Matthew Brooks (1) and Anthony De Souza (1). After 2 losses and 1 win it all came down to the last game. Kent managed to beat Sussex and that meant that Surrey came second on goal difference.
