This February half term in the Wetland and Wildfowl Trust Centre in Barnes, families and guests were in for a treat seeing various birds of prey up close and personal. The event ran from the 23rd to 25th February 2012 and attracted many families; birds included a Peregrine Falcon, a Barn Owl and a Common Buzzard.
Professional falconer Ben Long answered many questions from eager children and bird lovers during the weekend. The birds also seemed to have fun, watching the wild birds on the main lake in the wetlands. This was a rare chance to see the birds of preys fierce talons and stunning plumage.
The event was part of the Wing Watch week, an opportunity to go on bird watching walks and get creative in bird themed art and craft workshops. The week encouraged children and families to get close and develop their knowledge with the natural world. Children were also taught how to use binoculars and how to identify wild birds on the lakes in the Wetland Centre.
