Storytime may not only be for children, as shown by my interesting evening on Tuesday 12th February attending a Liar's League meeting in London.
Liar's League is an organisation which arranges for amateur authors to write short stories, and for resident professional actors to read them aloud onstage in various locations around London, Leeds and New York. As their slogan reads: “Everybody wins.”
The purpose of my visit was to see if something similar could be organised in our very own Croydon. The aim of our version could be a monthly community event, bringing together any budding writers in the area and local performers of all kinds.
I thought that the meeting was a great success. Every member of the audience was all ears as the St. Valentine's Day-themed tales unfolded and hooked our interest. Stories of all kinds filled the air, read expertly and often humorously by skilled actors. Us Croydon visitors were full of intense excitement about the potential for such an event in our area.
On our return journey a provisional name for the proposed event was put forward: Inspired By. This name sums up every aspect that the organisers hope for: original and inspired stories that will go on to spread their own inspiration in bringing Croydon's community together.
