Unfortunately in an age where technology rules many people’s lives; reading books is often overlooked. Studies have shown that reading improves spelling and grammar of which standards in young people are ever slipping, increases your general knowledge and allows you to form a rounded view and your own opinions about the world around you. World Book Day works to get everyone to appreciate the creative and diverse stories and authors of the literary world.
World Book Day is an annual event that inspires an interest in reading and books to all age groups. This year it will be held on the 7th March 2013 and schools up and down the country will be getting involved. One of these schools jumping in will be Surbiton High School. From the junior school all the way through to sixth form students will dress up in various colourful costumes depicting their favourite book character.
Regardless of your age or circumstances it is always fun to be creative and throw together a costume. This raises awareness and money for the worthwhile charity Book Aid International which World Book Day fully supports. Everyone taking part in this special event will receive a £1 book token which they will be able to spend on eight World Book Day books.
