Nothing could deter us from our sponsored walk on Saturday the 23rd – especially not the light snow. Our group, named United Hearts, arrived at East Croydon Station bright and early in order to raise money for the “Wings of Hope” Charity, with whom we are affiliated.
Our aim was to walk from East Croydon to Trafalgar Square, and our route totalled a distance of 11.8 miles exactly. The excursion took us over 4 hours, and though we may have complained about aching limbs our determination was commendable.
After numerous meetings and discussions we were glad to be on our way; however our mood was slightly dampened by the seemingly never-ending Streatham roads.
It was an extremely long day, but I am proud to say that we only stopped once and that we didn’t cheat by hopping on a London bus.
The “Wings of Hope” charity works to provide underprivileged children in India and Malawi with a free education, and we chose it because we believe that every child has a right to learn, no matter what their background. We attempted to raise £100 individually and are still receiving sponsors- even after the walk!
It was only right after all our hard work that we rounded off the day with a visit to Pizza Hut, and it was a much appreciated finish to a tiring yet worthwhile day.
