The Young Enterprise scheme has been running for over 50 years, and was designed for students to experience the world of business and marketing. Teams of students are given the chance to create entire businesses from scratch and will learn lifelong skills about the business industry which will surely be transferrable to everyday life. Since its inception in 1962, over 3.8 million students have been involved in the charity founded by Sir Walter Salomon.

Students from Nonsuch High School were eager to get involved; they now have three separate groups currently participating in Young Enterprise. One group that has particularly caught my eye is ‘Aurora’, a jewellery business specialising in bracelets.

The team had their first taste of fundraising when they had to raise enough money to start up their business. They were able to raise over £300 by selling snacks and sweets around their school making very good profits. Once the team had decided on their chosen product and brand, and had decided on a business name, they were ready to begin the marketing and selling process of the scheme.

‘It’s incredible being able to learn the basics of business in such a fun way with so much support from friends.’ – Aarabi Baheerathan (Marketing director)

Aurora were involved in two very successful trade fairs in Sutton’s St. Nicholas Centre as well as one in Croydon High Street. They made over £150 selling their jewellery. This taught the girls invaluable sales skills which secured them a substantial profit.
