It is absolutely insane how many people go through 'the phase'. You know, the “battle to defeat age” phase. The phase in which middle aged women and men alike go crazy, running to their local drug stores, grabbing frantically at anti-ageing products. Whatever happened to ‘growing old gracefully’? You have adverts advertising a new anti-wrinkle cream, or laser surgery to permanently get rid of those ‘ugly’ wrinkles. It is just another way to get people to spend a fortune on products and, frankly, unnecessary things. When will it end? Life comes with age. Tough luck. You can’t stay young forever. Let the new generation have their time, you’ve had yours. That means tone down on all the anti-aging stuff and calm down. Enjoy life and its beauties. Age brings intelligence, wisdom, beauty and experience. Age is natural and we should embrace it not run away from it when you see the first signs.
The reason why age is so violently resisted by society is down to the media. The media constantly broadcast images of the young, youthful side of society. But it fails to show more on the aging. Even when we are doing normal every day activities, such as browsing the internet, we are reminded of ways in which we can stay ever so ‘beautifully young and vibrant’. Small ads pop up on the side of the screen casting an image of a random 47 year old lady who now looks like 25. Wow. It is as if people want to stop the process of ageing. Add to that the fact that there are a diminishing number of role models, especially for women, and the result is a lack of inspiration for the young.
Life is not for being shallow and vain. Take advantage of it as it is “No great genius has ever existed without some touch of madness.” – Aristotle
People will always age and no amount of Botox, or other ludicrous methods to help prevent aging, will work.
