There is a lot of press at the moment about exam results, the education system and children in general. The youth of today often get bad media attention due to the riots, the general rise in antisocial behaviour and other misdemeanours. Teen pregnancy is often a cause for much distress even though we are seeing the lowest rate since 1969, this just shows how easy it is for people to condemn the younger generation without thought as to why this seems to be happening or even just looking at the facts.
This generation is the future and are responsible for trying to rebuild the economy as well as paying copious taxes that are always on the rise. However, none of this is possible when there are no jobs and very few prospects. People are leaving good universities; obtaining good degrees and then if they are lucky getting stuck in a job with no opportunity for advancement or unlucky and get no job at all. People are not retiring and therefore the jobs are staying filled and students cannot get experience and do not get a chance to revolutionise the way the country is run. Motivation is low and this is not helped by the stress of exams, trying to fill out UCAS applications, fighting against the stereotypes of young people or the constant stream of insults from the media.
It is often said the rise in anti-social behaviour is due to boredom and listlessness. Children from a very young age are becoming very aware of all the issues that they will encounter and therefore are stripped of setting achievable goals which they can strive to accomplish.
The World is trapped in a cycle of destruction and in order to get out we need to approach from a new angle and change the traditions and rules that have been set in place. This generation is one of rebellion and immense power and frustration, so much could be changed by letting the young people have a chance. When it is clear that the current system is not working surely the doors should be open to new people and new ideas.
