What’s the point of having 12 months of the year when you can squeeze it into just 2 months? Doesn’t the thought of having your birthday and Christmas every 2 months sound wonderful? Can you feel the urge to go and buy a bigger wallet blowing up inside of you as you see money flooding into your pocket every two months? What about the pile of presents you would get twice a month? Well here’s how the last few months have squashed all the types of weather over 12 months into 2.

As students went back to school in September after the summer holidays, the temperature was a terrific 26 degrees Celsius. Many people were worried about the water shortage in England after hosepipe bans over the summer from many water providers. Fears arose about there being a bad sustainability of the water in our reservoir’s and groundwater storage. It felt like summer had not ended yet and school shouldn’t have been starting so early.

December brought a nippy chill with it and a bone-freezing wind. On the 5th of December 2012, the clouds finally gave in and up to 2cm of snow settled on the frosty ground of Sutton. This was only the start; a few days later, the clouds were armed with another 5cm of snow which blanketed the layer of ice beneath it. The conditions caused many schools to close at midday and close school for a day after. However, the dreaded (to children at least) gritter lorries fought back and cleared the main roads within a day causing school life to spring back into action!

A week later, there was widespread flooding as the snow thawed followed by storms. On the 6th of January 2013, fog gave a spooky atmosphere to the usually busy rugby pitches of schools.

At the last moment, on the 23rd of January 2013, there was heavy sleet and hail which put the final piece in the puzzle of all the types of weather.

So why not just shorten the year to 2 months? It means more presents, more money and more snow days off school!
